Digging up PHP

PHP: (Hypertext Preprocessor) is a computer scripting language, originally designed for producing dynamic web pages. It is for server-side scripting, but can be used from a command line interface or in standalone graphical applications.

While PHP was originally created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1995, the main implementation of PHP is now produced by The PHP Group and serves as the de facto standard for PHP as there is no formal specification. Released under the PHP License, the Free Software Foundation considers it to be free software.

PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for web development and can be embedded into HTML. It generally runs on a web server, taking PHP code as its input and creating web pages as output. It can be deployed on most web servers and on almost every operating system and platform free of charge. PHP is installed on more than 20 million websites and 1 million servers, although the number of websites with PHP installed has declined since August 2005. It is also the most popular Apache module among computers using Apache as a web server. The most recent major release of PHP was version 5.2.6 on May 1, 2008.

In relation to the article I have wrote previously entitled, "The Power of Open Source" came to my mind on the most used web scripting today, its an open source type of programming technology, and a versatile programming languages, it comes to a many different frameworks, to mention a few, there's the Smarty, CodeIgniter, Symfony (the framework that was used in building anyInput.com and anyAssets.com), and many other frameworks in cyberspace, we might not know, the future maker of a new framework based on PHP programming language is you, who knows?

PHP is used in building dynamic websites, wherein it elaborates the use of basic HTML codes plus a combination of Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) and your site will be an overwhelming and dynamic one. There is also an option if you want to make your site very useful where you may want to encode and save records, another tool that was used in combination with what is called phpMyAdmin, its a tool to manage a set of databases and record tables where your data are stored. Some PHP-based websites are run by a database, wherein all the commands needed to run a dynamic website are stored in a database, it is called "database-driven website", anyInput.com and anyAssets.com are very obvious examples of a database driven sites. PHP also supports image development through the use of the basic image HTML code. It also supports audio and multimedia file types, and it has also a capability of uploading and downloading of files.

PHP is truly a useful and the most versatile web scripts among others in web development. So you can try them right now and start making wonderful, dynamic and useful sites out of PHP web scripting. You can start learning everything about PHP in this link.

The Power of Open Source

Open source is a development methodology, which offers practical accessibility to a product's source (goods and knowledge). Some consider open source as one of various possible design approaches, while others consider it a critical strategic element of their operations. Before open source became widely adopted, developers and producers used a variety of phrases to describe the concept; the term open source gained popularity with the rise of the Internet, which provided access to diverse production models, communication paths, and interactive communities.

The open source model of operation and decision making allows concurrent input of different agendas, approaches and priorities, and differs from the more closed, centralized models of development. The principles and practices are commonly applied to the development of source code for software that is made available for public collaboration, and it is usually released as open-source software.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source

Open source usually gains a little in the part of the developers, but it is practical, cheap and reliable in terms of sharing and collaboration of software projects among developers, even worldwide software developers can participate in another group of programmers without leaving the newbies in terms of codes, methodology, framework used and file exclusion issues on one's projects.

Take for example, the Linux Operating System, this software package comes into a lot of versions in a fast phase, from time to time Linux OS developers releases new versions of their project, Ubuntu, one of their projects has already 6 major version releases such as Ubuntu 6.06 LTS which was released 1st of June 2006, Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS released on August 10, 2006, Ubuntu 7.04 released April 19, 2007, Ubuntu 7.10 - October 2008 and the previously released version is the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS which was released April 24, 2008. Look closely at the span of time between each release, the releases are very fast, why is that so? Its all because of the Open Source Technology which invites a lot of collaborative developers and the saying "The More, The Merrier", applies to this type of software development practices, since there are a lot of programmers who joins hand in hand, the software can be finished as early as possible, can you imagine thousands of developers for just a single project. Class, modules and codes are very easy to understand since it uses standard language among its developers which makes them understand each other.

This technology is also a very cheap and low costing project development, since Open Source organization don't need to pay for the developers itself but needs a sponsor and donation makes every volunteer keep them alive. Everyone who has the heart to help others and share knowledge as well as has a very extensive knowledge on Linux scripting and programming can be one of the volunteer, just research for a way on how to join their organization and start becoming an Open Source developer. I don't have the idea on joining them though.

As a result, Open Source technology now grows so fast, there are a lot of development software on the internet rises as this kind of framework, to mention a few, PHP, AJAX, JavaScript, and a lot more.

On the other note, we can interpret Open Source as free stuffs and sharing. And it is also what anyInput is doing in the internet world, free listings of anything you want to share, any information that can amaze the world, any amazing stuff that can surprise humankind and the readers who searches for truth, who searches for knowledge.

I hate my ISP

Hey Guys, this is a sentiment of a globelines broadband unsatisfied user in support to my previous posts, this only means that I am not the only one who suffers for unprofessional services of globelines broadband in the Philippines. Please read them carefully and please post any thoughts that you may ever wanted to say.

------

Where have I been during these past 5 days of being offline?

I was calling up Globelines Broadband customer support service in order to follow up on the restoration of their “unlimited” internet service in our little corner of Silang, Cavite.

It all started back in March 28, 2007 when the broadband service was disrupted due to some problems their main server suffered. The problem they said was Luzon-wide. So it was understandable, but later that day my land-line lost its dial-tone. What the heck happened?!

The problem came from their ‘facilities’, the cabinet of switches, ports and routers they put up in our town plaza. My fellow town-mates who were also on Globelines had to go to their business center in SM City Dasmariƃ±as to file reports about this personally, I was among them. Thankfully, a crew was sent out the following day, March 29 and restored our land-lines to service. Unfortunately, our broadband service was still out, which is what we really and badly needed.

That town-mate of mine owns an internet cafe so his business was literally dependent on Globelines broadband being usable for him to make a living. The same was in my case, I badly needed my internet connection at that time because of the following:

* a blog series to finish before the Phil Blog Awards night
* freelance writing stints
* my first work-at-home paid job as a video editor

The blog series and freelance writing stints are of no major concern, but the most crucial for me was that video editing job of which I have been accepted for just last March 17, meaning to say that I haven’t even made it through to my first month of being employed.

At that time, I just finished working on 3 videos each being 400MB+ in size, which are just impossible for a dial-up connection to handle. To put in more pressure, those videos needed to be uploaded to my boss’ FTP account for him to give to the client on March 30. So I really needed my internet connection, that’s why I called up Globelines customer support service an average of twice a day praying that they keep true to their word that ’service would be restored within 24-48 hours.’

Unfortunately they were not able to do that. Frustratingly, every time I would call, they promised that the service would be restored the following day and that someone from their side would give me a call and give me updates so that at least, I could say something concrete and excusable to my boss every time he would ask me why I’m having delays on submitting my work, but none of the promised phone calls came through.

This drama went on for 5 straight days, from March 28 up to April 1, each and every single day of that dilemma, the same promises were given and were broken. At what cost? The blogging series coming to a halt, my freelancing stints being soured and worst, I lost my video editing job. Wouldn’t this look good in my resume? Not being able to go through the first month of job, because I am an unreliable worker, all thanks to an unreliable telecommunications firm posing as a world-class internet service provider.

This experience has really taught me a lot. It opened my eyes so to speak. It led me to a realization that Globelines is no different from the other ISPs in the country, from this experience I think they are now amongst the worst. It all started when that Taiwan earthquake revealed how crappy Globelines broadband service is, and ever since that revelation, we fellow Globelines customers here in Silang, Cavite have been plagued by that same troublesome ‘facilities/equipment/cabinet’ in our area.

Though I haven’t blogged about it that much, this same problem has been recurring in our area since January of this year. Again for four straight days, our broadband service was utterly useless, and the same promises of 24-hour restoration and phone calls that never came we first experienced on that incident. It’s only April of the same year, meaning that the repair job done last January was only good for like two months. This observation leads me to the following conclusions; a) the equipment they use are substandard, b) the technicians and crew they hire are incompetent, c) Globelines really cares little about its subscribers in Silang, Cavite, or d) all of the above.

Further proof of this is my neighbor who has been on Smart BRO since last year. Before the Taiwan quake his life was a living hell because he’s on Smart BRO while I was a happy and proud Globelines broadband customer, I even encouraged other friends to sign up for their service. After the Taiwan quake, my life is now a living hell while my neighbor has had no problem with his Smart BRO service since then. Would you believe that? I mean hellooo! He’s on Smart BRO!! I’m on a fixed line dsl service, what gives?! Damn it!!!

Now I hope that Globelines would keep true to its word this time around and give us that promised rebate for the 5-day service disruption, human aggravation and financial loss. Pray also that they would really, really as in really fix the problem in our area for good. Replace the damned equipment if necessary, but this is for the future customers who would sign up for their services. As for me, I’m just waiting for my lock-in period to expire this coming May and I’m switching to PLDT myDSL for my internet needs, just as Max Limpag did (congratulations on winning the Blog Awards!) who even wrote a break-up post that’s really an eye opener. PLDT’s services may be crappy too, but not as crappy as Globelines’ in our area. Not unless Bayan Telecommunications or SKY happens to offer its DSL services here in our area, I’d be more than happy to sign up for it.

Well, the same thing happens to me here in Iloilo City, Philippines exactly the same experience. What is your Internet Service Provider Details? Jot it down and share it at anyinput data storage .

My Internet Connection Sucks with Globelines Broadband

Since the day I started to offer services in the cyberspace helping those who are in need of my services, promoting sites to any search engine and letting people know that anyinput.com and anyassets.com sites, I was not satisfied of the Internet Service Provider (ISP) where I connect my computer to the internet. Why did I said these against my ISP? Here is my story:

Our subdivision, a prominent and classy subdivision, is an exclusive subscriber to the Globelines Broadband, wow, what a wonderful agreement between the two, at least Globelines Broadband is secured that they are the only provider inside it. And no other broadband is allowed by that subdivision to put up internet cabinet facility inside it. So there's nothing I can do but to subscribe to Globelines Broadband, a week later, my hellish life begun, my connection is not stable, it connects for a day, then disconnects for about one week, how's that? I tried to call the customer service representative but all they can say is "Sorry for the inconvenience, Sir. I will make a report regarding this instance". Wow, what a compliment, do this lines makes my connection stable and back to the operation? Of course, not! I have been to three months on this ISP but the service is still the same. The same old, old story. My sentiment is that why is this exclusive subdivision permits to operate exclusive only for this ISP? Where in fact, they cannot hold on to their promise to provide their customers with a high speed, stable and better internet connection? My ISP really sucks. Well, I live in Iloilo City, Panay Island, Philippines, I am not really recommending this ISP to any of my friends, and I will try to talk to the manager of that exclusive subdivision to let other ISP do business in our location.

My work on the cyberspace is really affected with this kind of services they offer, its been a week exactly today that I don't have the connection. I am losing dollars every day because of them.

Please advise me with what else should I going to do with Globelines Broadband.

Back Links Page at anyInput.com

anyInput.com

Recently, I have heard that we already have a page to put in back links whenever needed, so I immediately visited the page and found out that the page is up and running with vibrant colors as the background. That color orange page first caught my eyes and gave me the interest to explore the page and started wandering on how does the page operates.

http://www.anyinput.com/

It actually works like directory submission, where users places their site title, URL and description. The user must register in order to do this process. Registration is another part of the system, users starts to register by clicking on the register to create listings link, and will be redirected to a register page then supply username, password, names, and email address, after everything is in place, click the Save Settings button, and you have to verify your registration by clicking a link to our site which is sent to the email address you have provided during the registration process. Why we do this?Simply, to avoid fraud and automatic registration, and to make sure the registrant is a real person and most of all, to avoid hackers from exploiting our system.

http://www.anyinput.com/

The actual reason why we do have this page is that, directory submission sites often requires back links from links submitted, directory submission is a process done by an SEO (Search Engine Optimizer) personnel to ensure traffic from different types of sources, and to make the site to the highest rank possible of any search engine. Even though bookmark sites do not require back links, some other procedures in doing SEO asks for it, so in order for us not to have a hard time making HTML tags for their back link posts, we opted to device this page.
